St. Coletta's Transition Town Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Transition program for adults and children with developmental disabilities to host ribbon cutting ceremony.

May 3, 2017 - Tinley Park, IL – On Friday, May 19th, 2017, St. Coletta’s of Illinois and the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy School will hold a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to introduce the new Transition Town Vocational Training Center located at its Tinley Park Campus from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Every 15 minutes there will be a meet and greet with cooking demonstrations and tastings prepared by current and past students who have graduated from St. Coletta’s Culinary Training Program. There will also be a tour every 15 minutes to learn about each of the programs and how they will enhance student learning.

Transition Town is an enhancement on vocational programs already offered at St. Coletta’s for those with developmental disabilities, and goes a step further by creating a simulated working environment where each aspect of the town will work together. Students will not only gain valuable job skills, but they will learn the basics on how a business is run. Transition Town consists of Crossing Corner’s Bakery, The Ability General Store, the Laundromat and Central Purchasing. A Culinary and Janitorial program have already been established with great success and 100% job placement within the community.

Classroom time will reinforce and teach basic job readiness and life-skills such as hygiene, work ethic, interpersonal skills, problem solving and independence with job tasks.
