Suggs for Tinley Park

Bio

Dear Friends:

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Kevin Suggs and I am running for Village Trustee here in Tinley Park. I have lived in Tinley Park since 1997 and have been an active participant in the community for just as long. My conviction in community betterment has led me to take an active political role so that I can be part of the decision processes that will lead to improvements for all.

A strong belief that a solid education leads to economic opportunity has driven me to achieve a BS in pre-med from the University of Notre Dame. In addition to my BS, I have a BA in Music, Ministry & Theology and a MA in Theology, both from the International College of Excellence.

Beyond having a good education, my strong family ties and my faith in God have carried me throughout my life to accomplish the successes that I have earned. From a professional perspective, and by utilizing all three of these components, I have risen to the position of Senior Account Manager for Nexeo Solutions, consistently meeting and exceeding outlined goals.

By allowing me to continue representing you as Village Trustee, I will continue to be your resident taxpayer watchdog from within. By watching what is being spent, where it is being spent, and on which projects, I can evaluate where spending can be eliminated or reduced and take action to see that this happens. This position also allows me to be a vocal advocate to keep taxes as low as possible but still allow for essential government functions.

I know that Tinley Park is a safe community and to see that it continues this way, I am in the process of completing the Citizens Police Academy training. The goal of this 12-week course is to give citizens a working knowledge of law enforcement overall but more specifically, how the Tinley Park Police Department serves the community. This policy helps to ensure that our community is safe for our families and children. I encourage all residents to look into registering for this program if you are able.

In 2016, and as an appointed Village Trustee, I was able to be part of the process that allowed several new businesses to open within Tinley Park. With each of these openings, local employment opportunities were provided to residents.

Each Village Trustee must participate in community engagement by presiding over commissions that extend the municipal presence. I have taken an active role as Trustee Liaison for the following commissions: Civil Service Commission, Veteran's Commission, Police Pension Commission, Sister City Commission, and the Branding Leadership Team sub-committee. Each of these commissions serve as a critical component to the operations of the Village and it is a privilege to participate in them.
