Thank You, Congressman Rush!

Please join me in thanking Rep. Rush for supporting vital legislation that improves the lives of those living with Alzheimer's.

Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias are devastating the lives of countless families and communities. While I do not have a personal connection to this disease, Alzheimer's has touched the lives of many of my close friends and family members. I am fighting for future generations, especially for my mother and sister, because I have witnessed the enormous burden this disease can have on people and don't want it to affect my family down the road. With more than 230,000 Illinoisans living with Alzheimer’s and 588,000 providing direct care, our country must address the vital needs of families and caregivers who face the devastating emotional, physical and financial challenges from this disease.

Without a means to prevent, cure or even slow the progression of Alzheimer’s, it is the responsibility of Congress to support this vulnerable group through increased research funding, enhanced care and improved support. I am grateful that my Congressman, Bobby Rush, is taking an active stance on this issue by cosponsoring the Younger-Onset Alzheimer’s Disease Act (H.R. 1903). It may sound obvious, but for those diagnosed under the age of 60, there is a greater struggle to access resources, as they are not eligible for the same supports and services as those over age 60. This bill is critical to improving the lives of those living with Alzheimer’s, as it works to alleviate this problem.

As the number of Illinoisans living with this disease continues to increase dramatically and the costs associated with caring for people with the disease have the potential to bankrupt our healthcare system, I am thankful to know that Representative Rush is bringing Alzheimer's to the forefront of the congressional agenda and hope you are too!
