A nudge from her husband prompted Lullo to consider an entrepreneur's life, she said. With the economy turning—she used to worked in the mortgage industry—and a child entering kindergarten, a home-based business began to look pretty good.

Lullo gained hands-on experience working with her own dog's groomer, who also ran an at-home grooming business. She then took classes and became fully certified.
