Tinley Man Charged With DUI After Hitting Mailbox, Leaving Scene: PD
Police said the man hit the mailbox with his car Sept. 10 in the 17700 block of Highland Avenue.
TINLEY PARK, IL — A Tinley Park man was charged with driving under the influence after striking a mailbox with his car and leaving the scene, police said.
The man, 28, struck the mailbox in the 17700 block of Highland Avenue on Sept. 10, police said.
Police responded to the area shortly before midnight after receiving a call that a black-colored vehicle had just hit a mailbox and sped off, police said. An officer reportedly found Daly passed out next to a vehicle matching that description, which was parked at a nearby dead-end in the 17800 block of South 62nd Avenue, police said.

After the officer woke him up, the man seemed disoriented, smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes, police said. His vehicle also had front-end damage consistent with hitting a mailbox.
A witness confirmed that his car was the one that struck the mailbox, and police took him into custody.

The man also was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane usage, leaving the scene of a crash, failure to give information after striking other property and driving without insurance. He will appear Oct. 3 at the Cook County Courthouse.
