Tinley Park Car Thief Ditches Car After Owner Opens Fire: PD
A car was stolen from outside a Tinley Park gas station Friday. The victim fired as it was happening. The offender ditched the car nearby.
TINLEY PARK, IL — A man shot at his own vehicle as it was stolen from outside a gas station in Tinley Park Friday evening, police said Saturday. The thief then ditched the vehicle just blocks from the scene, and fled in a chase car, police said.
Detectives are investigating the incident, which happened around 6:30 p.m. Friday. The offender took the car from outside a Shell station at 171st and Harlem, abandoning it shortly after in the 16700 block of Harlem Avenue, Tinley Park Police Chief Matthew Walsh told Patch. The suspect then fled in a chase car, Walsh added. The direction in which they fled is unclear, Walsh said, as witnesses relayed limited information.
Few other details were available as of Saturday morning, Walsh said. Police were unable to view surveillance footage Friday night, and it's unclear if the camera had captured the incident, Walsh said.
