Tinley Park HS FCCLA Students Advance to State Competition

Byanka Pantoja, Jamie Ton, Amanda Ashmus and Kassidy VanMerkestyn will compete at the State level

Tinley Park High School students recently competed in the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Sectional Proficiency Events competition held at Kankakee Community College. The Titans had 27 students enter the competition in the areas of Fondant Cakes, Cookies, Preschool Lesson, Preschool Literature, Interior Design, Fashion Display, Relish Tray, and Salads. Four Titans placed high enough to continue to the State FCCLA Competition later this year in Springfield. Byanka Pantoja earned a 1st Place finish for Fondant Cake, Jamie Ton earned a 1st Place finish and Most Outstanding award for her Fondant Cake, and Amanda Ashmus & Kassidy VanMerkestyn earned a 1st Place finish and a Most Outstanding Award for their Children’s Literature Presentation. FCCLA teacher, Ms. Maggie O’Connor commented, “The students really enjoyed demonstrating the skills they have been working hard to perfect in class. I am excited to see the students advance to the State level competition!”
