Tinley Park High School Applauds Star Foreign Language Students

A group of 31 French and Spanish students were recently inducted into the Tinley Park High School's National Honor Society.

Tinley Park High School's World Languages Department is proud to announce the induction of 31 well-deserving students into their first local chapters of the French National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society.

Founded in 1949 and 1953 by the American Association of Teachers of French and Spanish, this organization promotes the continued study of the students' chosen foreign language. Students inducted must be in their 3rd or 4th year of high school study, and must have maintained a high average in their world language class, as well as their other classes. Upon induction to this honor society, students are expected to continue their language stu

dy until graduation from high school, complete service hours, and continue to earnestly promote the language. French teacher Mrs. Selime Baftiri-Ballazhi and Spanish teacher Mrs. Gloria Varlotta spearheaded the organizations at Tinley Park High School to honor and recognize students who stay committed to learning a world language during all four years of high school. Students have many options when it comes to courses they may take, and world languages are not a requirement for all four years.

Mrs. Baftiri-Ballazhi explained, “Any student who was honored at the induction has chosen to make foreign language and global learning a priority. That's what we, the world language teachers, want to recognize.” Officers will be elected next year, and the tradition shall continue with great pride at Tinley Park High School.
