2 Dead After Apartment Fire In Vernon Hills

The blaze left the building uninhabitable, displacing residents of the apartment complex.

VERNON HILLS, IL — Two people are dead after an overnight fire at a Vernon Hills apartment complex, according to police.

Authorities responded shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday to the building in the 900 block of South Court of Shorewood, where they discovered a heavy fire and two victims, police said.

One person was found dead and the other died at Advocate Condell Medical Center, according to police, who said both victims were adults.

The blaze was extinguished but left the building uninhabitable, police said, adding the American Red Cross is working to assist displaced residents. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
