Boy Dies After Being Struck By Vehicle

VERNON HILLS -- A 13-year-old boy died after being struck by a vehicle late Friday in Vernon Hills.

Vernon Hills police said the boy, a Mundelein resident, was crossing Townline Road near Milwaukee Avenue at around 9:55 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old boy, also of Mundelein.

The 13-year-old was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville before being flown to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead.

The 16-year-old driver was not injured in the crash, and was not ticketed, according to police.

Police said they do not suspect that alcohol, drugs or cell phone use were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
