Day in the Life of a Hawthorn Middle School South Student
Welcome to a Day in the Life, South Side addition!

by Allison (7th grader)
Welcome to a Day in the Life, South Side addition! These Facebook posts will reveal what life is like as a student at Hawthorn Middle South. Every day is full of surprises, read on to hear about some. In ALA with Mr. Manning, we participate in a silent discussion, a new twist on the traditional class discussion. Students write their opinions to prompting questions on large sheets of paper, where thoughts accumulate and connect. Moving next door to Mrs. Munkvold’s Social Studies, we are joined by Petri, Mrs. Masini’s chameleon. He watches us take notes on the French and Indian War with eyes on the side of his head. Later that day, in Mr. Brennan’s Science class, we conduct an experiment on conduction. In groups, we measure the change in temperatures of soil and water under heat lamps. Much more interesting than reading from textbooks! After school, the girls basketball team warms up for their game against Lake Zurich South. The 7th grade Eagles lose a tough game by two points. Come out and support the team on Tuesday, against Grayslake! Then it's back home to work on homework. After some time to relax, it's time to get rested for tomorrow's adventure!
