Real Urban Barbecue Celebrates Grand Opening

RUB it in…. Real Urban Barbecue has opened its second location in Vernon Hills and a grand opening celebration is planned for Saturday, July 28 from noon - 4:30 p.m.

Real Urban Barbecue’s new restaurant, located at the corner of S. Milwaukee and Route 45, serves up RUB’s signature smokey flair.  The menu features homemade BBQ sauce and slow-smoked items like award-winning ribs, pulled pork, turkey, brisket and chicken slowly rotated on Cookshack smokers capable of smoking 1600 lbs of meat daily.

Grand Opening activities will include a ribbon cutting ceremony with fellow Vernon Hills neighbors and business leaders, complimentary rubber pig noses (oink) for guests of all ages, a live radio broadcast with 670 The Score complete with giveaways, games and more.

The Vernon Hills restaurant will also offer the nearly 7 lb. “Hungry Home-Wrecker Throwback Sandwich.”  On Sunday, July 29, high school kids will have the chance to compete in the challenge to win a free BBQ Sandwich a week for a whole year.  This gigantic meal (priced at $29.95) is not for the faint of heart—or appetite.  A monstrous specially sourced bun is topped with 1.5 lbs of RUB’s house-smoked andouille sausage, 2 lbs. pulled pork, a hot shower of Texas Sauce, a pint of coleslaw, and 6 oz. of RUB’s own “Brain Buster” pickles.

Since opening in November 2010 in Highland Park, Real Urban Barbecue has quickly become a celebrity favorite with regular visits from Tom Thibodeau, head coach of the Chicago Bulls; John Paxson, VP of operations, Chicago Bulls; Chris Williams, Chicago Bears; Matt Suhey, ‘85 Bears; and BJ Armstrong, retired World Champion Chicago Bulls player and super agent to Derrick Rose.    While appearing at a recent concert at Ravinia, Al Green picked up an order of ‘cue to go.
