‘A Fresh Market On Steroids’: Massive New Grocery Store Opens In Vernon Hills

The 100,000-square-foot store features bakery, sushi station, prepared foods and expanded international offerings.

A new grocery store described as “a fresh market on steroids” has opened in Vernon Hills, bringing a massive, expanded shopping experience to the Marketplace at Vernon Hills shopping center.

The store occupies about 100,000 square feet in a repurposed former Bed Bath & Beyond space and an adjacent unit at 413 N. Milwaukee Ave., offering an unusually large layout designed to serve a wide range of shoppers. It features extensive fresh produce, large meat and prepared foods departments, a European bakery, sushi station and a broad mix of international grocery items, according to the Daily Herald.

Owner Nick Merikas said the goal is to offer “everything the neighborhood wants and then some,” with the store employing about 120 workers, according to the Daily Herald.
