Holiday Guide: Schools Set Tone for the Season

Several school concerts will provide the community with a musical medley entering the holiday season.

Vernon Hills High School Chamber Choir will present its fifth annual Madrigal Dessert Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Sullivan Community Center, 635 Aspen Drive.

The event will feature the Chamber Choir providing entertainment through Renaissance-era madrigals, motets and part-songs as well as familiar holiday carols.

Tickets are $12 each and include an assortment of desserts, coffee and cider. The show is about 90 minutes. Seating is at round ten-person tables. Seating is limited to the first 200 tickets reserved.

The school’s Chamber Choir will also be singing at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Welcome Yule Concert on Dec. 16.

The VHHS Holiday Music Festival will have two shows this year. Scheduled for Dec. 18 at 6 and 8 p.m. in the school’s auditorium, 145 Lakeview Parkway.

Schools in the Hawthorn School District 73 will host several concerts as well. The Middle South Band and Jazz Band Concert is scheduled for Dec. 4 at 7 pm. in the Middles South Gym, 600 N. Aspen Dr.; the Middle North Band and Jazz Band Concert is set for Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Middle North Gym, 201 Hawthorn Parkway.

Townline Elementary and the Hawthorn School of Dual Language will present its Fifth Grade Eagle Chorus Holiday Musical on Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Townline Cafeteria, 810 N. Aspen Dr.
