Kinzie Real Estate Group to Renovate Home for Mundelein Woman Paralyzed in Shelter Collapse at O'Hare Airport

Kinzie Real Estate Group announced the firm will donate time to oversee the construction to renovate a home for Tierney Darden, the 24-year-old Mundelein woman paralyzed when a shelter collapsed on her at O’Hare airport in August. The woman suffered a severed spine and remains paralyzed from the waist down.

“This was a terrible tragedy and our hearts went out to Tierney and her parents. We were so moved by her strength and determination to recover as much as possible that we wanted to find a way to help,” said Steve Spinell, principal of Kinzie Group. “Because her physical limitations now require very specialized housing arrangements, we thought helping her family find and renovate a home to meet Tierney’s needs would be a natural way for us to help.”

Kinzie Builders will oversee all aspects of construction during the remodel of the home, including managing volunteers and donated building resources. The builder will follow ADA guidelines to ensure everything is compliant for Tierney.

In addition to managing the construction of the family’s new home, Kinzie made a monetary donation to the gofundme.com account for Tierney’s ongoing rehabilitation and therapy.
