Sente Highlights Illinois Weatherization Assistance Program

Vernon Hills, Ill. – In an effort to help local families cut energy costs, State Representative Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, is encouraging homeowners to see if they qualify for the Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program (IHWAP).

“While our economy is slowly beginning to turnaround, there are many working families in our area that were hit hard by the recession and still struggling to recover,” Sente said. “The Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program is an important state initiative that helps low-income households lower their utility bills, while simultaneously making their homes more energy efficient through a variety of structural improvements.”

Energy conservation measures that are eligible for funding through the program include air sealing, attic and wall insulation, furnace repair and replacement, electric base load reduction, and window and door weatherization. Families are encouraged to check if they qualify by contacting the agency provider in their area - Lake County: (847) 249-4330 and Cook County: (312) 795-8998. “Last year we were surprised with a dangerously cold winter that took many unsuspecting homeowners by surprise,” Sente said. “It is my hope that by increasing awareness of this program that more families will be able to take the necessary steps to prepare their homes for the cold winter months ahead, as well as to help residents live more sustainably.”
