Four people face charges related to a series of late-night incidents last month, Vernon Hills police said.

VERNON HILLS, IL β€” Four people have been arrested and face charges related to a series of burglaries and trespassing incidents reported last month in Vernon Hills, police said. Police were called to the 200 block of Masters Trail around 5:10 a.m. on June 30 after receiving a report that a man had been seen pulling on the car door handles of parked cars and entering at least one of them.

When they arrived, police found a vehicle with three people inside parked in the 1700 block of Woods Way. One of the two passengers matched the description of the man who had been seen pulling on the handles.

Police said the man, later identified as 49-year-old Daniel Camacho of the 1100 block of South Lewis Avenue in Waukegan, briefly struggled with officers but was taken into custody.

A fourth person was taken into custody after police saw him running through the backyards of homes on Woods Way. Police identified him as Brandon Petterec, 20, of the 700 block of Meadow Lane in Libertyville. He was in possession of firearm ammunition which had been stolen from a vehicle parked in a garage on the same street, according to police.

Police found a GPS unit and a pair of sunglasses that they determined had been stolen from inside a vehicle parked in the 200 block of Coventry Circle.

The four suspects also went swimming together in an association pool off Coventry Circle without permission, according to police.

Camacho was charged with burglary to a motor vehicle, aggravated battery, assault, resisting, unlawful use of weapons and criminal trespassing, police said. The battery was for grabbing the finger of an arresting officer and allegedly trying to break it, while the assault was for allegedly trying to bite an officer, according to Vernon Hills police spokesperson Kim Christenson.

Petterec was charged with residential burglary, burglary to a motor vehicle and criminal trespassing. Gille was charged with burglary to a motor vehicle and criminal trespassing and escape. Russell was charged with criminal trespassing to the pool, according to Christenson.

Three weeks after the incident, police continue to look for the owners of two possibly stolen items they found in the suspects' possession.

Police asked anyone with information about a stolen set of car keys on a LaSalle Bank key chain or a Sonim XP5700 cell phone to contact detectives at 847-362-4449.
