Vernon Hills Band Receives State Honor

The Vernon Hills High School wind ensemble was recognized June 4 for its success at the SuperState Concert Band Festival, where it won its division’s championship for the third consecutive year.

Members of the band were honored by the Village of Vernon Hills which issued a proclamation congratulating them on their May performance at the University of Illinois, which resulted in the band’s Honor Band designation.

“The Illinois SuperState Concert Band Festival invites only the finest wind band programs in the state of Illinois based on competitive application. Every band invited is a winner and represents the very finest the state has to offer. Each year, an honor band is selected from these fantastic performances,” reads the SuperState website.

Only 38 Illinois bands were chosen to participate in the festival, and four of them earned Honor Band status.

As an Honor Band, Vernon Hills will be featured in an honor concert at next year’s festival. The band is directed by Randy Sundell.

Libertyville High School, which falls into a different high school division, was also named an Honor Band this year.
