On Saturday, May 2, Girl Scouts troop #40735 out of Vernon Hills helped to unload a $200 Peapod delivery – donated by Peapod and hand-picked by the girls – at REACH/Alpine pantry in Lake Zurich. Then, the girls set up the pantry for distribution, and volunteered their time assisting families in need.
The Girl Scouts’ well-spent Saturday was the culmination of the Kids Give Back program sponsored by Peapod. For weeks, the Girl Scouts have been learning the ins and outs of proper nutrition on a budget from the curriculum, which teaches the importance of a balanced diet. The Kids Give Back program also teaches about food scarcity, and how many people in the local area don’t have access to healthy food on a regular basis. The girls put their newfound knowledge to the test by hand-selecting a $200 grocery order on Peapod.com to be delivered to a local food pantry. Peapod donates the groceries and makes a matching $200 back to the troop.
