Works by 10 District 128 Student-Artists Chosen for IHSAE

Work by 10 student-artists from Libertyville and Vernon Hills high schools was selected for the 2016 Illinois High School Art Exhibition.

The Illinois High School Art Exhibition (IHSAE) held its opening and awards on Sunday, March 6, at the Zhou B. Art Center in Chicago. Ninety high schools from Chicago, Northern and Central Illinois submitted works for display in the show. From those submissions, 450 works were chosen--5 to 6 from each school--for display and the opportunity to win awards. Ten student artists from Community High School District 128 had works selected for the show.

In addition to having their artworks on display, the students work was viewed by 40 universities and colleges, along with prestigious art schools from across the country, that were in attendance and awarded scholarships to deserving students.

To be chosen for this show is an honor. Congratulations to the following LHS and VHHS students accepted to the show:

LHS: Abbey Meyer: Photography; Maria Mutis-Ruiz: 3D; Emily Schuler: Graphic Design; Maria Speck: Drawing; Nate Sweitzer: Painting

VHHS: Iuliia Boyarskiy: Graphic Design; Anya Caples: 3D ; Daniel Day: Painting; Amber Heier: Photography; Sophie Yufa: Painting

In addition, D128 students received the following honors:

Abbey Meyer -- Summer Studio Scholarship to the American Academy of Art in Chicago.
Nate Sweitzer -- summer pre college Program Scholarship to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, as well Art Scholarships to Ball State University, although he is only a Sophomore!
Maria Speck -- Gold Medal in the Drawing Category. This really equates to a "State Runner Up" and also comes with a $300 monetary award.
Sophie Yufa -- Summer Studio Scholarship to the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD) in Milwaukee, WI.
Daniel Day -- $3,000 Fine Arts Scholarship to Millikin University in Decatur, IL.
