Lake County Sheriff arrests suspect in fatal Beach Park hit-and-run crash (lakecountygazette.com) — A 21-year-old from unincorporated Waukegan has been arrested in connection with a July hit-and-run crash in Beach Park that killed a 19-year-old Waukegan motorcyclist. Sheriff's investigators say evidence tied a red GMC Sierra pickup to the scene, leading to felony charges for leaving a fatal crash and obstructing justice while the investigation into the incident continues.
   

3. 'Left an indelible mark': Family mourns death of Waukegan father who died while swimming at Illinois Beach State Park (lakemchenryscanner.com) — A Waukegan father, 45-year-old Asdrubal Guifarro Munoz, died after being pulled from Lake Michigan at Illinois Beach State Park on Sept. 6, despite extensive rescue efforts and CPR. Family members remember him as a loving husband and father while investigators say his drowning may have been triggered by a medical event, and relatives have launched a fundraiser to cover funeral costs.
   

4. A lifelong love of nature inspires lasting gifts (dailyherald.com) — A Lake County nature lover who grew up in Waukegan is turning her lifelong passion for local forest preserves into a lasting legacy. She has dedicated memorial benches on nearby trails and arranged to leave her home and wildlife-friendly yard to the Lake County Forest Preserves, hoping future generations can find the same peace and connection to nature she treasures.
