7 Car Burglaries In Western Springs: Police

All the cars were unlocked and ransacked, report says.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — The Western Springs Police Department is investigating seven car burglaries and the theft of a car that occurred early Wednesday morning, according to a news release. All the cars were unlocked, police said.

The incidents happened between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. in the 3900 block of Grand Avenue, 5000 block of Woodland Avenue, and the 5600 and 5700 blocks of Ridgewood Drive. In the burglaries, suspects ransacked cars and took driver's licenses, credit cards, cash, purses and other items of value, police said. One of the burglaries involved entry into an open garage.

  • Lock car doors and keep windows closed, even during quick errands. Always take your keys with you.
  • If your car has a built-in security system, use it.
  • Remove visible items such as cash, wallet, purses and cellphones and place them in the trunk.
  • Park your car in an area that is visible to the public.
  • Install security cameras around your house to capture any potential criminal activity.
