WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – Officers last month responded to a fight between employees at a Western Springs bar, with one of them considered drunk, police said.
The incident was reported about 10:30 p.m. March 7 at The Opry, a cocktail bar that closed for good shortly after.
Patch obtained the police report through a public records request.
According to the report, an officer saw a "highly intoxicated" man standing near the cash register closing out various bar tabs.
Because of the report's redactions, the exact roles of those involved were unclear. But the report indicated that the man appeared to have at least some supervisory functions.
The officer asked about what happened, but the man told the officer to stand by as he closed out the tabs. It appeared the person had about 15 credit cards in his hand, police said.
The man told the officer that he was "jacked" by a bartender and that the bartender had already left, according to the report.
Asked what started the fight, the man said it started when a bartender owed him money for another engagement that the bartender worked, police said.
At the police station, a witness told the officer that she was tending bar with a male bartender when the first person interviewed spoke about a private party engagement that the male bartender worked, police said.
The first man yelled to the point that the woman became scared and said she had never seen someone become so angry, police said.
The female bartender said she stepped between the men as each grabbed the other's shirt, police said.
No punches were thrown, she told the officer. She pointed to one person as the aggressor in the incident, but because of the redactions, it was unclear which one.
She told the officer that she would not work for one of them anymore and believed he was out of control, according to the report.
She said she would be happy to come forward as a witness.
A message for comment on Friday with Opry owner Dan Schovain was not returned.
The bar, which opened in January 2024, closed in the weeks after the incident.
