WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – A Lyons Township High School student was attacked from behind in the South Campus boys locker room last week, with dozens of students watching.
Video of the brawl is being circulated. Patch doesn't publish footage where juveniles can be identified.
Western Springs police were called to the incident at South Campus, the village confirmed.
"The investigation is still underway, and there is no additional information to share at this time," Western Springs spokesperson Selmin Cicek said in an email Tuesday.
At the beginning of the 34-second video, boys were gathered at the end of a locker row, some holding up their cameras, apparently anticipating the fight.
A boy approached another, who was retrieving items from his locker, seemingly unaware of what was going to happen.
The suspect got behind the other, then went to his side. When the unaware boy reached the other way for something, the suspect grabbed him and pulled him to the ground in a common area of the locker room.
Dozens of boys from all directions cheered loudly. They did nothing to stop it.
The boy got up and swung a few times at the suspect, who then did the same, knocking the boy to the ground again.
The boy got up and punched the suspect in the face.
A boy in the background repeated, "Oh, sh–!"
The video ended before the fight apparently did. No adults could be seen in the footage.
Patch left a message for comment with school officials.
In late August, the school announced to the public that a North Campus fight drew La Grange police. The school promised to work closely with officers.
In May 2023, a juvenile was arrested on charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery involving great bodily harm. It was in connection with a North Campus attack.
La Grange police did not give the age, gender or hometown of the person and did not say whether the person was a student at the school. They said they would not release any of that information because the suspect was a juvenile.
Western Springs police usually release more information.
