WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – A woman alleges that $50,000 to $60,000 worth of jewelry is missing from her safe deposit box at a Western Springs bank.
On Saturday, the 68-year-old Berwyn woman called police to Heartland Bank, 4456 Wolf Road.
Patch obtained the police report through a public records request.
She reported that the jewelry, her husband's passport, Social Security cards, his military dog tags and some personal artifacts were gone from the box.
The woman told police that her 64-year-old husband and 32-year-old daughter, both of Berwyn, also have access to the box.
The bank said it has a master key and all customers have their own sets of keys, according to the report. It takes both sets of keys at the same time to open a box.
The bank told police it would take a few days to retrieve a box's sign-in records, the report said.
The woman also has a smaller safe deposit box at the bank. She said the keys for that box were somewhere in her house, but it would take some time to find them, according to the report.
The bank has no cameras for the vault with the boxes, with the only cameras inside the bank near the tellers, according to the report.
