Back-to-School Reminder: Drive Carefully in School Zones

Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution as students return to school.

Law enforcement agencies are reminding drivers to watch for school zones, obey the posted limit and don’t use a cell phone while driving.

Roads can become more congested during the first few weeks of the school year, so allow more time for your commute.

Students who walk to school and home should look both ways before crossing the street, listen to crossing guards and watch for turning vehicles. Be especially alert during bad weather.

Riverside police will conduct extra patrols near schools and in surrounding neighborhoods during the first few weeks of school, according to the Village of Riverside. The Riverside Police department will also increase traffic enforcement activities in school speed zones.
