Bites Nearby: A Meat Lovers Paradise Makes Q BBQ A Q-riffic Experience

Spicy sauces, smoked meats and hearty sides make this a La Grange hot spot!

The sign of any good restaurant is a line. If people are waiting to eat, they must be doing something right. at 70 S. La Grange Road in La Grange is a carnivore’s dream.

Upon entering, Q BBQ possesses that Southern honky-tonk roadside feel. The huge chalkboard menu makes it easy to order and the staff will gladly help you pick out your perfect meal.

The menu ranges from pulled pork and chicken to sausage and brisket. If all those sound good to you, I recommend the Q-Combo which is a multiple choice their succulent meats.

If you’re looking for something different, try one of their Q-Sandwiches. The Carolina Pulled Pork sandwich is toasted and topped with Q-Slaw, smoked Gouda cheese and their signature Carolina sauce.

The ribs were very good and had a unique tasting rub. The meat easily came off the bone, but just enough stayed on to gnaw at it like a Labrador.

The variety of sauces is fabulous and each table has a caddy of condiments. You won’t find the typical sweet BBQ sauce found in your grocery aisle. You can choose from four: Texas Spicy, South Carolina Mustard, Memphis Sweet and Carolina Vinegar. Each distinct in flavor and fun to sample.

Side dishes are exactly what you’d expect…BBQ Baked Beans, Q-Sticks (cornbread) and Mac-Q-Roni. Every dish is accompanied with two hush puppies. The crispy exterior with just a hint of onion is truly delicious.

What surprised me the most is that their fries, which are fresh cut, weren’t as tasty as I was expecting and the slaw was bland… nothing special.

Something you rarely see at any restaurant is a food allergy chart. Clearly posted next to the cash register, it lists all their gluten-free choices and notes the use of peanut oil in all their deep fried treats. A plus for anyone with food allergies.

The Honorable Mention is definitely the $2.00 Hamm’s Beer. Kudos to Q BBQ for the beverage nostalgia!
