Bites Nearby: Going Green Is the Way to Go at Prasino

Urban chic and organic ingredients are a winning combo in La Grange.

Everyone is going green these days, but you don’t have to be a tree hugger to enjoy Prasino at 93 S. La Grange Road in La Grange.Β Β

A family-owned, eco-friendly restaurant, Prasino, pronounced (prah-see-no), means β€œgreen” in Greek. It isΒ a modern, health conscious establishment and is unlike anything else you’ll find in downtown La Grange.

In addition to supporting local farmers, they’ve incorporated wood from Cicero’s Sportman’s Park to build their floor, cabinets and tables. Prasino’s finished product is a dΓ©cor that is absolutely fresh, soothing and eco-stylish!

For breakfast, start with one of their uniquely blended fruitΒ smoothies. The multigrain pancakes areΒ crazy delicious topped with the house made vanilla maple syrup. Hungry yet?

Keep it light for lunch with their Grilled Skirt Steak salad topped with crimini mushrooms, tomatoes, blue cheese, tobacco onions and a honey mustard dressing that’s made fresh.

Reading the list of entrees is a feast for the eyes. You’ll definitely want to go back and try several dishes. How can you choose between the Braised Beef Short Ribs or the Caramelized Scallops?

Their chef has reinvented many of your favorite foods and created some culinary gems. The staff is very attentive without being pushy.

The last time I dined here I took advantage of their half-off bottle of wine offered on Wednesdays only. Β It was an excellent value for our table of four and the wine was fantastic.

So if you’re eating a little healthier these days but don’t want to skimp on flavor, then go green, go Prasino!
