Bites Nearby: Put an “Olé” in your Cinco de Mayo!

These five restaurants are sure to heat up your Thursday.

1.  Have a “grande” ‘ole time. La Cabanita, 9438 Ogden Avenue, Brookfield, (708) 387-9100. These guys know how to party! La Cabanita transforms their entire parking lot into Mexican fiesta (minus the palm trees) complete with live mariachis, folk dancers, piñatas and $5 Margaritas.

 2.  Muy Delisioso. Café Salsa, 9932 W. 55th Street, Countryside, (708) 352-5100. They have been voted by several dining polls as “The Best Mexican Restaurant” in the area. Since 1984, Café Salsa’s been serving up tasty tacos, Carne Asada and the ever popular Chimichanga.

 3.  Another round, por favor. Casa Margarita, 32 S. La Grange Road, La Grange, (708) 354-CASA. They don’t have “margarita” in their name for nothing! 21 flavors to be exact. An array of tropical flavors, served in fishbowl size glasses, like banana-berry and sour apple.

 4.  Dining al fresco. Santiago’s, 24 W. Calendar Court, La Grange, (708) 54-0700. The vibrant colors and murals of their interior will transport you on a mini-vacation. If the weather cooperates and it's “caliente”, relax in their patio area while sampling a beverage from their extensive tequila menu.

 5.  Let’s go, amigo! Fajitas Mexican Restaurant, 6510 Joliet Road, Countryside, (708)352-8226.  If you’re too busy and don’t have time to sit down and feed the family, Fajitas is my only pick with a drive-thru. Kids will love the fried ice-cream and Nachos Supreme.
