Bites Nearby: Tropical Sno, an Icy Oasis in the Heat

Hawaiian shaved ice is a seasonal favorite in Willow Springs.

The blizzard of 2011 brings back memories of icy, cold conditions…which sounds great right about now. If you want to beat the heat with a refreshing treat, stop by Tropical Sno, 8695 Archer Ave.Β in Willow Springs.

Tropical Sno is about a 5-mile drive down Willow Springs Road (a.k.a. Gilbert Road, which separates La Grange and Western Springs) and stands proudly in an open parking lot. For all practical purposes, it’s a shack, but we’ll call it a hut because that sounds a little more inviting.

The menu couldn’t get more simple… Hawaiian shaved ice and over 75 flavors. No, this is not the Sno-Cone that you may remember from your childhood… hard, pebble-like ice chunks. Tropical Sno possesses the actual texture of real fluffy snow which they make with theirΒ custom shaver.

You have your basic cherry, orange and strawberry, but if you’re feeling a little more adventurous sample the Citrus Cooler, Tangerango or the Tutti Fruitti. They will mix any flavor shot you desire, so your choices are endless.

For all the health nuts out there, the big draw here is no caffeine, no cholesterol and no fat: just pure, delicious flavor!
