Fresh Start

With Fall, comes the start of a new school year and a new season of shows and classes at the Theatre of Western Springs.

We are supposed to countdown to a new year on December 31st, but the start of school always seems like the beginning of the year to me. Coming from a family of educators, back-to-school time has always been more important in my life than the start of a new calendar year.

Fall feels like the right time to refocus and reinvigorate. It's the time I like to really buckle down and work harder at the theatre, get organized at home (my Spring cleaning gets done in the Fall), and make time for friends.

Fortunately, I've chosen a line of work where Fall is still the beginning. Fall brings the start of a new theatre season, the start of new after-school programs, and the feeling that something great is going to happen.

Things are definitely hopping over here at TWS this week. We launch our 84th season of shows on Thursday night with the opening of the hilarious Moonlight and Magnolias on our Mainstage. On Monday, September 10th, our children's theatre begins its 66th year of after-school classes, and these two events are just the start of what's sure to be a great season.

While the kids around town have been packing their new backpacks and sharpening their pencils, we've been hanging lights, sewing costumes, rehearsing scenes, and planning curricula. The building is all clean and shiny, and our lobby even has that great smell of recently waxed floors we all remember from the first day of school. All of us at TWS are ready for a fresh start, and we can't wait to open the doors to everyone in our community. Join us!
