Make Dad Happy This Father’s Day!

Father’s Day is fast approaching – do you have plans to celebrate the Dad in your life?

Celebrations and gifts can range from simple to elaborate depending on your budget and style.   In the end, Dad probably just wants a relaxing day where he doesn’t have to do yard work, fix anything around the house or cook.

Fun activities to celebrate:

• Take a walk or bike ride through Graue Mill or Bemis Woods…maybe even ride to the Brookfield Zoo!
• Spend the day playing and relaxing at the pool or beach
• Treat him to Starbuck’s or Oberweis
• Hit the driving range, golf course or play a round of minature golf
• BBQ at the park or at home
• Get out on the water - Go fishing.  Takemefishing.org has some great tips and ideas.  The Chicago Area Fishing Guide offers information on local waterways for fishing, sailing, paddling, etc.
• Go kayaking – check out kayakchicago.com or chicagoriverpaddle.com
• Camping – in the backyard or at a campground

Get the kids involved with these “no cost” gift ideas:

• Wash/detail dad’s car, bike or golf clubs
• Mow the lawn
• Grill the burgers and steaks for dinner (get the meat at Casey’s and some sides at Whole Foods or Dominick’s)

Other gift ideas:

• Power tools (what dad doesn’t LOVE a power tool?)

• Fishing pole or fishing lures - or a gift card to Bass Pro Shop, I’ve seen these at Dominick’s!
• For the chef/foodie – Williams Sonoma has some great ideas and Sur La Table has a cool meat thermometer
• For the man who doesn’t like to ask for directions (and doesn’t already have one built in to his car), a GPS system from TomTom or Garmin
• A subscription to his favorite magazine…
• Or better yet, a Kindle, Nook or iPad
• For the golf enthusiast – lessons with a pro or time at Ditka’s Sport Dome
• For the athlete – a heart rate monitor or the Nike+ FuelBand which tracks activity and calories burned
• Hammock

No matter what you do to celebrate, Dad will know you appreciate him!
