Open House, Open Minds
Acting, singing, and...compassion? The performing arts teach kids about much more than how to perform.

This week is our Open House here at the Children's Theatre of Western Springs. Friends and family are invited to attend class with each of our students and discover what their children learned throughout the semester.
Our students learn a lot about the performing arts for sure, but sometimes I think the more important lessons we teach them have absolutely nothing to do with theatre. Children involved in our classes gain self esteem and confidence. They learn how to collaborate with others so that all of their amazingly creative ideas combine into one even better idea. Students learn about tolerance and empathy, and they learn that they can accomplish much more than they ever imagined.
I'm pleased when one of our students chooses to pursue performing arts when they leave our program, but as long as we help our students become bright, enthusiastic, compassionate young people then we have done our job well.
