Chicago Man Nabbed in Act of Deceiving Bank Employees: Cops

Western Springs police said man was trying to open account with fake driver's license, arousing bank employees' suspicions.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL -- A Chicago man was arrested inside a Western Springs bank after he tried to use a fake driver’s license to open an account, police said said in a news release..

Dowan Darrius Halsey Jr., 29, of the 800 block of North Springfield, Chicago, was charged with multiple felony offenses, including two counts of identity theft, two counts of forgery and one count of possession of a fictitious ID card.

According to a police news release, officers responded to a possible identity theft in progress at the PNC Bank branch at 40 W. 47th St., Western Springs, around 1:23 p.m. Sept. 15. Halsey Jr. aroused the suspicions of bank employees when he tried to open a bank account with a fake driver’s license.

Employees alerted police who arrested Halsey inside the bank without incident. He is being held on $100,000 bail in Cook County Jail, following a court appearance at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building on Sept. 17.

Halsey’s next court hearing is Sept. 20 in Bridgeview.
