The curtain is going up on the 85th season at the Theatre of Western Springs. On Thursday, the 500th show in TWS history opens. On Monday, we begin the 67th year of Children's Theatre classes.
We're busy over here at TWS, and we don't plan to slow down any time soon! What has kept us going all these years? I think if you ask around, most folks would say the people.
For the grown ups, they enjoy one another's company. They like the collaborative process of talking with one another and putting a show together. Most importantly, the adults appreciate the lifelong friendships they've made over the years.
The kids would probably say the same thing. They come back to classes year after year because the camaraderie among their theatre peers is something they value. The students appreciate the respect their teachers share with them, and the kids like knowing that they contribute to some pretty awesome productions.
The word that both groups--kids and adults--consistently use when talking about their experience at the Theatre of Western Springs is "family." They feel like the people they meet, the volunteers they encounter, and the faculty members who teach them are like members of an extended theatre family. A family that isn't related by blood, but instead is brought together by a shared love of the performing arts.
We're glad we have so many wonderful and talented folks in our TWS family, and we look forward to another 85 years of great theatre!
