Discolored Water Caused By Hydrant Flushing In Western Springs

Residents near Hillgrove Avenue may see some discolored water flowing out of their taps.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL β€” Residents near Hillgrove Avenue may see some discolored water from their faucets, due to a hydrant flushing. According to a release from the village, flow testing of the hydrant is now complete, but a larger area than first anticipated may experience the discolored water. The village said this discoloration is due to an apparent change of flow direction in the water main, which results in sediment in the pipes being stirred up.

According to the release, nearby residents should hold off on dish-washing and laundry for several hours to allow for sediment to settle. After that time run the lowest cold water tap in your home until the water runs clear.

The public works department had to open several hydrants for testing, isolation and disconnection for the east train platform reconstruction project, according to the release.
