Driver In Fatal Crash Identified: Western Springs Police

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs police have identified the man who died after crossing all lanes of traffic and striking a tree just north of Ogden Avenue on Monday afternoon. He was identified as David S. Martin, 66, of Beach Park, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has determined that Martin died from blunt force trauma resulting from the impact with the tree, according to a police news release. The investigation to determine the cause of the crash continues, police said.

The crash happened shortly after 3 p.m. north of the intersection of Ogden and Grand avenues within the Bemis Woods Cook County Forest Preserve. Upon officers' arrival, they saw an unresponsive Martin, who was the only person in a 2007 Cadillac CTS. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
