Fire At Unoccupied Western Springs Home Put Out Quickly

Several fire departments responded to a Tuesday morning blaze near I-294.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL - Firefighters in Western Springs and other nearby towns quickly put out a blaze some morning commuters who use Interstate 294 may have seen from the highway during the Tuesday morning rush hour.

An unoccupied home in the 5400 block of Fair Elms Avenue undergoing a renovation project caught fire before 8:20 a.m., according to the Western Springs Fire Department. The location is just one block east of I-294.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming from the attic. Several other area fire departments responded.

Smoke conditions were found throughout the building and the windows showed signs of charring.

The fire was relegated to three hot spots in the basement that were quickly extinguished. The home was ventilated after the fire was put out.
