First 6 Months In Western Springs A Success, Treadfit Owner Says

Treadfit owner Jenny Harkins says the gym's small group training sessions have gained in popularity since the gym opened in March.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — A fitness center that offers daily strength and conditioning classes has now been open for more than six months in the Garden Market Shopping Center of Western Springs. Treadfit Owner Jenny Harkins says she's "thrilled" with the growth of the business since opening in March and that "tremendous support from the community and surrounding areas" has helped make one of the newest fitness options in town a success.

"Clients are benefiting from the attention received in our small group training sessions compared to other similar gyms that often pack thirty plus clients into a class," Harkins said. "Since opening in March, we have created relationships with local businesses and charities, collaborating on events and fundraisers."

At Treadfit, classes are capped to a 15 person maximum "to give more attention to individuals," Caitlin Cody, manager of Treadfit's Western Springs location, said. "Our treadmill workouts are detailed, and the strength part is more intense because you know that if you need to get fixed, the instructor is going to fix you."

The Western Springs location is Treadfit's second. Harkins' first, located in Chicago's Beverly neighborhood, has already expanded to a larger space in less than five years since the flagship location first opened.

"Western Springs was in our original plan to open as a second location... even before we opened in Beverly," said Harkins, a Beverly/Morgan Park native and Mother McAuley High School alum. "Our goal was to open here (Western Springs) by our five-year anniversary in Beverly and we are happy to have done it sooner."

Harkins says she likes the "good vibe" that comes from Western Springs. Much like the vibe she's experienced in Beverly her whole life.

"This kind of business does well in a neighborhood like this," she said. "The demographics are similar to what we see in Beverly, so we'd certainly love to become a hub here like we are there."

Those interested in working out at Treadfit have numerous options, from a single class that costs $18 to an annual membership costing $1,725. They are currently offering a "September Special" of $20 off the 10-class pack, which is normally $160.

Discounts are available for teachers, police officers, firefighters and military. See all options here, where you'll also find the upcoming class schedule, information on the instructors and sign-up information.

"We look forward to a long, successful run in Western Springs," Harkins said.
