Five Unlocked Cars Broken Into In Western Springs: Cops

All the targeted cars were unlocked and parked on residential driveways, according to police.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Five unlocked cars were broken into between 12 and 1 a.m. on July 9, Western Springs Police said. The burglaries took place in the 4100 and 4200 blocks of Clausen Avenue; 4100 and 4200 blocks of Howard Avenue and the 4200 block of Lindsen Avenue.

Police said all the targeted cars were unlocked and parked on residential driveways. A witness called police after he heard the slam of a car door. He saw a black male with dreadlocks wearing a light-colored shirt in his driveway and two other males in his neighbor's driveway.

The suspects were seen getting into a dark 4-door car and leaving the area, police said. A wallet, baseball bag, sunglasses, loose change and phone charging cords were stolen from the cars.

Police said over the past few years, the Western Springs Police Department as well as neighboring towns have seen a sharp increase in vehicle-related crimes. This trend continues to target unlocked vehicles in which valuables are removed, and in some cases, the vehicles are stolen when the keys have been left inside.

In Western Springs, the north section of town has been victimized more frequently. The majority of the crimes occurred from Sunday night to Monday morning or Monday night to Tuesday morning between the hours of 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Police said they will continue crime prevention measures and proactive policing efforts by continuing to notify residents of open garage doors, being highly visible, developing intelligence, sharing information with its surrounding partners and utilizing all available resources in efforts to prevent and solve these crimes.
