Gun Threat In Western Springs Encounter: Cops

In another local case, a man attempted to steal $1,200 in items from a store.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL β€” In recent days, Western Springs police handled cases involving retail theft, disorderly conduct, a DUI and identity theft. Here is information from the latest Western Springs police reports:

  • A driver told police that a man in another car pulled up next to him about 1:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at Wolf Road and Park Place. The man got out of his car and said he had a gun. However, no gun was visible. The man went back into his car and drove away without any more problems. The incident was listed as disorderly conduct.
  • Rafael R. Ortiz, 37, of Chicago, was cited at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Walgreens, 4700 S. Gilbert Ave., on a charge of retail theft. He was released on bond. According to a police report, the store's assistant manager witnessed Ortiz leaving the store with a bag full of merchandise that he had not paid for. The items consisted of over-the-counter drugs with a value of more than $1,200.
  • Luis A. Arroyo, 36, of Bolingbrook, was arrested about 4 a.m. Sunday at Wolf Road and 55th Street on a charge of DUI. He was released on bond. According to a police report, officers saw Arroyo sleeping in his parked car. They spoke with him and found he appeared to be under the influence. He failed field sobriety and breath tests.
  • A resident in the 1000 block of Longmeadow Lane told police that a fraudulent Verizon Wireless account was set up in his name. Charges of more than $300 are outstanding on the account.
