Hymn Sing and Rally Day Kick-Off the Sunday School Year

On Sunday, September 8, the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs held a special hymn sing and celebrated Rally Day to kick off the Sunday School year.  It was a great morning of music and fellowship!  Check out the photo gallery for a few photos from the event.

PCWS loves music!  Members of PCWS suggested hosting this special hymn sing as an opportunity to sing some favorite hymns and to learn more about the great hymns of our faith.  The congregation was invited to share their favorite hymns and 296 individual suggestions were made over the past few weeks.  There was some overlap in the suggestions, of course, bringing our count to 79 different songs and hymns.  This past Sunday, we sang or heard performances of 23 of those hymns.  We enjoyed “When Morning Gilds the Skies,” “Great is Thy Faithfulness,” “I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry,” “A Mighty Fortress,” “Amazing Grace,” and many more.  It was a wonderful Sunday full of uplifting, meaningful music and we're looking forward to including the remaining 56 favorites over the next few months in worship.  Many thanks to the choir for sharing their talents with us!

After our hymn sing, we headed outside for Rally Day fun and a picnic lunch.  Children enjoyed a bounce house on the lawn and all sorts of outdoor games and activities.  After they tossed some bean bags, blew bubbles, or did a craft, they could get their faces painted.  We enjoyed a delicious lunch together and appreciated the beautiful day.  All the kids loved indulging in sno cones and were so thrilled to make their own multi-colored, syrupy sweet creations.  (Many adults were equally excited about the sno cones, FYI.)

The hymn sing and Rally Day activities were a wonderful way to bring our church family back together after summer vacations and look to the Sunday School year ahead.  Thanks so much to the dedicated Sunday School teachers who share their time and talents every Sunday to teach the children!

• Worship 9:30am:  Childcare provided in our nursery for babies and toddlers.  Preschoolers may attend preschool class.  Older children stay in worship and then depart for Sunday School.
• 10:30am:  Fellowship---join us for coffee, treats and time with friends and neighbors
• 10:55am:  Morning Edition---adult education
• 4pm:  Holy Yoga!
• 5pm:  Junior High Youth Group Kick-Off Party
• 7pm:  Senior High Youth Group Kick-Off Celebration
