Interfaith Community Partners Honors Volunteers of the Year
Interfaith Community Partners hosted a breakfast to update the sponsoring churches and honor and recognize many volunteers for their time.
On Wednesday, March 11, Interfaith Community Partners hosted a breakfast to update the sponsoring churches and to honor and recognize many volunteers for the time and effort that they contribute to support the mission of ICP: helping seniors in local communities remain independent and in their homes as long as possible. Representatives from 14 coalition churches enjoyed breakfast, heard stories of the many services ICP offers and celebrated as two Volunteers of the Year were named: Jan Matheny and Steve Lundy.
Jan Matheny was recognized for providing 130 hours of service over 92 activities. Jan is a member of First United Methodist Church of LaGrange and has been volunteering for ICP approximately 8.5 years. She enjoys providing service to seniors because she believes it fulfills a need and the flexible schedule allows her to volunteer even when she only has a short time available. All the people she meets are very appreciative of her and the services of ICP.
Steve Lundy was recognized for providing 129.5 hours over 77 activities. Steve is a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in La Grange. Steve has been volunteering for about five years and first heard about the organization in the church bulletin. Steve enjoys the time he spends providing transportation. He has met some very interesting people including former co-workers to retired politicians.

Aileen Pendleton, Executive Director of ICP, remarked “Jan is one of our most faithful, dedicated volunteers. Her warm welcoming smile immediately makes our care partners feel comfortable and reassured. Jan always is willing to help out last minute. Jan is a quiet, gentle soul who enjoys listening to the stories our care partners have to share. We couldn’t do what we do without kind hearted people like Jan.
Steve is our gentle giant! His wonderful sense of humor, easy going personality and kind heart make every care partner feel extra special! Steve is extremely dedicated and passionate about Interfaith Community Partners. We are so blessed to have both Steve and Jan as volunteers.”
