Through contributions from generous members, a new play cube was added to the Thomas Ford Memorial Library in December. This addition, though, is not in the Youth Services Department on the lower level; it’s by the Circulation Desk on the first floor and gives the younger set something fun to do while Mom and Dad are checking out materials. The cube came from library supplier Demco, which explains that it encourages cooperative play with five activity centers, that children can practice color recognition, hand-eye coordination, and counting. Children and parents have given it an enthusiastic reception; check it out for yourself by visiting the Library at 800 Chestnut St.
More news from Youth Services: Babies born or adopted to parents in Western Springs can start out with a board book bearing their name and birth date on a special label, thanks to a new program at the Thomas Ford Memorial Library. The Friends of the Library will donate a book in honor of each pre-reader; to have your child acknowledged, fill out a paper form in the Youth Services Department of the Library or online at http://fordlibrary.org/kids/baby
