Kids Helping Kids: Great Mission Projects from Summer 2013

The kids of the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs worked on 2 great mission projects this summer. Learn what they did and join us this Sunday as we kick off our Sunday School year!

The children of the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs had a great time at Vacation Bible School this summer.  In addition to the games, Bible stories, crafts, music, and sports, they participated in two meaningful mission activities.  First, the children collected used crayons for SCARCE.  This local organization recycles used crayons and makes larger crayons for children with disabilities.  Go to the SCARCE web site (www.scarceecoed.org) to see videos about the great work this organization does and to watch their video about "Super Crayons."

The kids also collected money for Heifer International.  $132 was collected and added to our Sunday offerings and with that money, we purchased a pig, a goat, a sheep, geese , bees, a share of a rabbit and a share of fish.  The children had a good time shopping for Heifer and sharing these donations with families in need around the world.

Working together on meaningful mission projects, to help people locally and globally, was a special experience for the kids and a lot of fun.  Now we're gearing up for the start of our Sunday School year and we have great programs planned for children and youth.  This Sunday, September 8, is Rally Day and we'll be kicking off our Sunday School year with games and activities and a picnic after worship.  Join us for worship at 9:30am and plan to stay for fun games on the lawn at 10:30.  We'll serve lunch at 11am with BBQ food and plenty of delicious sides and desserts.  After summer vacations, Rally Day is a wonderful way to pull back together and get energized for the Sunday School year ahead.  Please join us at 5250 Wolf Road for Sunday worship at 9:30am and fun with friends and neighbors afterwards.
