Lion newspaper lands awards at national convention

Lyons Township High School's student newspaper, Lion, accumulated several individual awards at the national high school journalism fall convention in Indianapolis, IN, hosted by the Journalism Education Association and the National School Press Association (JEA/NSPA).

In write-off competition at the convention, four senior students placed in individual contests. In total, 1379 students entered various write-off contests, with 532 winning awards: 96 Superior, 164 Excellent and 272 Honorable Mention awards.

In the 2016 News Story of the Year category given out by the NSPA, 2016 graduate Ceili Doyle, of Willow Springs, earned 5th place in the nation for her story “Tragedy strikes LT community,” which was published online October 2, 2015. http://www.lionnewspaper.com/news/2015/10/02/tragedy-strikes-lt-community/
