For the fourth consecutive year, Lyons Township High School students and staff took an icy plunge in the waters of Lake Michigan and raised the most money of any group participating in the 2016 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics of Illinois, which supports athletes with intellectual disabilities.
LT’s group raised $10,732, with the help of two teachers and 23 students and for the second year in a row received the “Golden Plungers” award for being the team that raised the most money overall. Sophomore Ben Bryant, of Willow Springs, raised the second most amount of money out of all the participants in the entire event, bringing in $3,265 himself! Donations help provide athletes with intellectual disabilities the chance to participate in year-round sports training and competition. In total over the past four years, LT has raised $41,293, with approximately 210 students and staff participating.
LT had the largest group in attendance, and for the fourth year in a row, LTHS was awarded the “Cool School Challenge Golden Bear Award” for being the high school with the most funds raised.
