LT coin war makes a big deposit for charity

LT's Project ASSIST collected more than $1300 with a fun competition

Lyons Township High School's Project ASSIST (Association of Students Serving to Improve Society Today) wrapped up their coin war and collected more than $1,300. Donations will benefit the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. Over the last two years, Project Assist has raised a total of approximately $3,000.

The object of the coin war was to collect as many silver coins, while avoiding all pennies. Students collected silver coins and dumped pennies in other classrooms as a way of wartime sabotage. North Campus English classrooms and South Campus mathematics classrooms participated. This year’s winners were Melissa Tieman’s math students and Ryan Darrah’s English students. The winning teachers received a trophy and bragging rights.

The goal of Project ASSIST is to lend a hand and assist others. Special Education teacher Brian Wolf is the sponsor. The club meets after school on Fridays at North Campus in room 231.
