Students competed in the annual Illinois Personal Finance Challenge

Congratulations are in order for four Lyons Township High School students for placing in the Top Ten out of 127 teams competing in the annual Illinois Personal Finance Challenge (IPFC). The event was held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.

All team members are sophomores and students in an LT Economics class. Will Conn, of LaGrange, Lauren Hahn, of Western Springs, Josue Gonzalez, of Brookfield, and Tyler Byrne, of Western Springs all participated in the state finals.

The IPFC is designed to recognize students who demonstrate high levels of comprehension and application of personal finance concepts and skills, and reward teachers for outstanding practices in teaching personal finance concepts.

In order to qualify for the state finals, the team took an online test of 30 questions. The top team from each of five regions in the state, plus the next five highest-scoring teams in the state advanced to the state finals.

At the state competition, teams take a set of written tests to determine the finalists. The two teams with the highest team scores on three rounds of written tests advance to the final quiz bowl round, which concludes with the announcement of the first place team.
