Makers, Picasso at the Nanoscale and Zoo-to-You!

It's Week 5 of the Thomas Ford Library Summer Reading Programs!

Registration is underway for children, tweens, teens, and adult Summer Reading Programs at the Thomas Ford Library. To register in person, come to 800 Chestnut St., Western Springs throughout the summer. To register online, click fordlibrary.org

While on the Library’s website, check out the dazzling array of programs and events that comprise the Summer Reading Programs. The offerings for young readers will fall under the themes of “Every Hero Has a Story” and “One Heroic Summer;” those for adults are themed “Groundbreaking Reads: Ideas that Shook the World.” All age groups will read, earn prizes, and have a great time. Here are some of this week’s events:

Monday, July 6, 2-4 PM: Movie & Maker Monday: Movie and a craft for Grades 6-12.

Monday, July 6, 7-8:30 PM: Picasso at the Nanoscale: Learn how physicists use high-energy X-ray instruments to help solve age-old art mysteries for institutions such as the Art Institute and the Smithsonian. Presented by Dr. Volker Rose from Argonne National Laboratory.

Tuesday, July 7, 4-5 PM: littleBits Maker Day: Attention, Makers! Come to the Library to explore our collection of littleBits. Try your hand at completing tasks from our premade task cards or use the pieces in your own way to come up with unique items that light up, move, or make sound. We can connect them with Lego, too! Grades 4-8

Thursday, July 9, 1:30-2:30 PM: Zoo-to-You: Meet heroes of the reptilian kind when The Wildlife Discovery Center of Lake Forest brings snakes, lizards, and turtles to the Library. Ecology, biology, and conservation will be discussed. Kindergarten and up. Caregivers welcome, but no younger siblings, please.
